The Taming Of The Queen

By Philip Gregory

425 pages

What’s it about? This work of historical fiction follows Kateryn Parr, the last wife of Henry the VIII, as she navigates a very dangerous court. What did it make me think about? How absolute power, corrupts absolutely! Should I read it? Philippa Gregory’s novels are pretty formulaic, but also highly entertaining and informative. I always enjoy picking up one of her books when I am in the mood for a quick read. Quote- “This is a man so sharp with pride that he cannot hear contradiction. This is a man who will play both sides at once to make sure that he wins. This is a man who from a boy has never been refused. And, in addition to all of those- here is a man who cannot see himself as anything but perfect. He has to be the very best.”
