What’s it about?

It is Paris, in the year 1866, where we meet the Mothe sisters. Sylvie is now a Baroness and none to happy when her sister Charlotte finds her new home and comes calling.  Sylvie has left her past life as a spiritualist behind to marry- and part of the deal was severing all relations with her past life and family.  But was is she to do?  Her sister needs her to complete one last scheme to pay the bills- after all their father is dying and she has left Charlotte to care for him alone.

What did it make me think about?

What a clever plot.

Should I read it?

This was a thoroughly enjoyable novel.  Lots of gothic undertones and subterfuge.  I am sure we will be hearing more from this new author.  Well done!

Quote-

“I would get like this sometimes, even as a child: sure that the world was conspiring against me.  Papa called it paranoia; Mama, intuition.  I supposed that which parent was correct depended upon the outcome.”
