What’s it about?
Carrie Soto is a former professional tennis player. Six years after her retirement a younger player comes along and is challenging her record. Carrie decides at 37 years-old to step back onto the court and retake her place as the greatest women’s tennis player the game has ever known. What did it make me think about?
Drive and ambition.Should I read it?
Taylor Jenkins Reid is at the top of her game. She writes easy to read, entertaining novels that will please most readers. I can not say they are the most challenging stories I read- but they are very well done. I was interested that Carrie Soto was not the most likable character in this book. I give Ms. Jenkins credit for turning the gender roles around a little in this story. All in all a solid book about an interesting character- and who doesn’t like a little romance thrown in to the storyline….Quote-
“It was okay to win as long as I acted surprised when I did and attributed it to luck. I should never let on how much I wanted to win or, worse, that I believed I deserved to win. And I should never, under any circumstances, admit that I did not believe all my opponents were just as worthy as I was.”What’s it about?
