338 pages

What’s it about?

When Titus Crown decides to leave the FBI and return home to his small hometown in Virginia he never expects to encounter a serial killer.  But Titus is now the sheriff, and the responsibility for finding this killer lands on his shoulders.  Navigating small town politics and the racism that still exists in his hometown makes this a more difficult investigation that it has to be.

What did it make me think about?

Small towns in the South.

Should I read it?

This was a compelling mystery but it is on the graphic side.  S.A. Crosby writes fully drawn characters and his plots always move you forward.  The star of his books is the small-town Southern atmosphere he creates as the backdrop to his stories.  Racism is a prevalent theme.  If you love a whodunit you will like this book.

“It occurred to him no place was more confused by its past or more terrified of the future than the South.”
